Winter Security for your Home
Monday, January 16th, 2012It’s wintertime all across the country and one of the most dangerous times to be at home. Here are a few things to remember as the temperature drops and you and your family head indoors for the season:
Carbon Monoxide: CO2 is one of the leading killers this time of year and that’s no secret. You should check to make sure your CO2 detectors are still charged and if you’re placing new ones in your home remember to put them near the floor as the stuff sinks, not rises.
Fire: With many fireplaces and furnaces just gearing up, this season is a firefighter’s nightmare. Check your smoke detectors and find out about combination solutions. Many ADT Home Security alarms come equipped with smoke sensors and will call the fire department for you.
Cold: It’s cold outside but that doesn’t mean you have to feel that way! Check for pipes near bursting and be sure to make sure your hot water heater isn’t leaking. Alternatively, check with neighbors to ensure everyone’s heat is functional, particularly the elderly and youngest residents on your street.
